Prince

Today’s post is on my favorite singer.  Prince.  One name, one unique genius and someone who influenced (and still does) my life in such a profound way.  I have so much love, admiration, respect, and fascination for someone I never met, but I feel I knew him very well, through his music.  His songs seem to be written directly for me (well some of them). In 1978 I belonged to a record club called Columbia Records.  The membership included I believe 10 records (then tapes) for a penny then you had to buy 3 more in 2 years or something like that.  As I browsed the catalog of free choices, I stumbled across The Police (Reggatta de Blanc), Kiss (Alive 2), Queen (The Game), and Prince (Prince) among others.  I placed my order waited and eventually received my records.  None disappointed, but one blew me away.  Yeah, Prince.  I remember vividly listening to the first track ‘I Wanna Be Your Lover’, followed by ‘Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?’, a...

Thy Will Be Done

Through the process of taking over Mom’s finances back in May through her death and litigation process of the Will, I have learned a lot.  I am taking steps to lessen the burden for my wife and son upon my death.  This will not be the most exciting post I write but I implore you if you have loved ones this is something you should deeply consider, though I know 90% of you will brush it off. My sister and I have begun the process of cleaning out some things from my Mom’s house.  Well more like I have.  My sister “will get to them later”.  When my in-laws came over to pick up a deep freeze, and a cherry bedroom suite, including a bed frame, mattress, dresser, and vanity, they walked around the house looking at all the stuff and said: “you guys have a lot to do”.  It was joking followed up by “you are going to have fun when we die”, as stated by Marcie’s dad.  Though it was a joke to him, I took it differently.  As the person responsible for taking care of my h...

Wanita Bindner (July 17, 1936 - June 10, 2020)

My mother recently passed away one week ago today.  After attending the visitation, funeral mass, and funeral now it is time for me, my sister, and family and friends to heal.  As Mom and I often butted heads and didn’t see eye to eye on many things, I know the love was there and she was well respected and loved by many.  I have attached her Obituary beautifully written by my sister and a close and longtime family friend Sr. Rose Rule.  Below that is the Eulogy sentimentally written by my cousin. Obituary : Wanita Ann Wolfe Bindner, July 17, 1936-June 10, 2020, 83, died peacefully at UofL Mary & Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Preceded in death by her best friend and husband of 43 years, Francis “Skip” Bindner, Jr., parents Waldo Wolfe and Mildred Masterson Wolfe, brothers Terrance and Keith Wolfe, sisters-in-law Dorothy Wolfe, Sharon Bindner Carpenter, Janie Bindner Patterson, brother-in-law Charles “Sonny” Carpenter, nephew Terry Dearing and numerous other sp...

Gerald Mills

Photo by: Gerald Mills Today’s post is about a photographer I recently connected with on Instagram.  He is a wonderful photographer and I love and admire his work. A few weeks back I attended a ZOOM session for FujiFilm wherein about 8 different professional Fuji photographers were being interviewed about their work, style, and how they are dealing with Covid-19.  Us observers asked questions via chat and this is where I discovered Gerald Mills.  I had sent out my Instagram page in the chat (yes I am okay begging for views) and consequently so did Gerald and many others.  I clicked on his IG page and started reviewing his feed.  I was amazed by his work. Not long after, I messaged him via Instagram and commented on some of his work, as he also sent me praise on my work.  A bond formed via our love of photography.  I then went to his website and began looking through those shots as well.  One-shot in particular struck me.  I stopped on this shot and just stared at it.  To me, anyo...
